Transferring DREAMers

Are you a DREAMer planning to transfer to a university to earn your bachelor's degree? DVC can help you create an educational plan to meet your transfer goals!

We understand that for many undocumented students, DVC is only the first step in your educational journey and we are committed to supporting your transition from DVC to your future university. The resources below are available to help you prepare, plan, and achieve your transfer goals.

Support for Transferring DREAMers

  • DVC offers transfer programs that can streamline your transfer path! Options include:

    Associate Degree for Transfer

An Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) is a two-year associate degree that is fully transferable to California State University (CSU) campuses, as well as many Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), private colleges, and select fully online universities.

Transfer to a UC, Private, Out of State or Overseas University

DVC has articulation agreements and partnerships with many universities. These agreements make it easier to select courses applicable to your transfer institution. Find out more by visiting Articulation Agreements.

    General Education Pattern Transfer Paths

If you would like to transfer to a University of California (UC) or CSU campus to earn your bachelor's degree, another option would be to complete one of the generation transfer pattern options. Note that you are not guaranteed admission or transfer to any particular university.

    Transfer Programs
  • Successful transfer students take advantage of all the resources the campus has to offer; they attend transfer workshops, gather information, visit the Transfer Center early and often, and meet with counselors and visiting university representatives to create individualized transfer plans. Visit Transfer Process to learn more.

    Transfer Process
  • Undocumented students are encouraged to meet with an academic counselor once per semester. Counselors can help students with course selections, choosing a major, creating an educational plan, and staying on track to accomplish your goals at DVC. Visit Academic Counseling to learn more.

    Academic Counseling
  • Don't let the cost of attending a university become a barrier in your plans to transfer and earn a bachelor's degree! Undocumented students are eligible to apply many grants and scholarships that are designed to lower the cost of tuition at universities. Visit CA Dream Act Financial Aid for Undocumented Students to learn more.

    Questions?

If you have any questions about financial aid programs for undocumented students or the status of your California Dream Act application, please contact Phoebe Keesey, Financial Aid Program Coordinator, at pkeesey@dvc.edu.

  • Attending the DVC graduation ceremony is an exciting opportunity to reflect and celebrate all of your hard work and accomplishments. We highly encourage undocumented students to participate in this educational milestone with friends, family, and the DVC community.

    Graduation Ceremony
  • No matter what type of university you're interested in transferring to, DVC has transfer resources and information that will get you on your path:

    California State University (CSU)

The California State University is deeply committed to ensuring academic opportunities are available to all the state's students, regardless of citizenship status. If you are an undocumented student, there are many resources available to you -- from grants, loans and scholarships to legal and campus support services.

    University of California (UC)

UC campuses offer a range of support services — from academic and personal counseling, to financial aid and legal advising — that can help you balance being a full-time student while handling other day-to-day challenges you may face. In fact, every campus has designated staff or faculty members who can work with you to find the right support on campus and answer your questions.

"During my first semester, I was scared to share my status. Receiving information and resources from the DREAMers Alliance and attending Puente classes taught by teachers who looked like me made me more interested in school."
