Notetaking Services offers shared notes and tools to develop students' ability to take notes
independently. Notetaking is available for both in person and online classes.

Eligibility
A DSS counselor or learning specialist will authorize notetaking services for students with a verified disability.

Our goal is to provide students with tools to develop their own notetaking habits and abilities or to provide students with notes to study lecture material after class.

*Student Notetakers are volunteers. Student Notetaker Requests often take several weeks or
more to be matched with a notetaker.
Requesting Notetaking Services
Once you’ve met with a DSS counselor and are approved for DSS services, please complete
the Request for Notetaking Services Form.
We invite you to visit the DSS department to discuss notetaking service options with our coordinator, Jonathan Cattarin, at Jcattarin@dvc.edu.
Important: Each request form is only valid for one semester and must be completed again for future semesters.
Notetaking Training and Development

- Software: We can offer application recommendations based on your learning style.
- Hardware: A variety of hardware options are available.
Equipment and Software
The DSS department loans note taking hardware and software to students on a semester basis.
Glean
Glean is a web service that records online lectures and allows you to take notes over the recording. It can also annotate the recording so you can return to it later to review or fill in your notes. Getting started with Glean.
Audio Recording Device
The audio recording device is a low-tech solution for auditory learners. Our recording devices are small, easy to use, and battery-powered.
Echo Smartpen
This device can record everything you hear, say, and write and links your audio recordings to your notes. Packed with useful features, the Echo Smartpen helps you quickly and efficiently access the formation you need. Smartpen tutorial.
Otter Captioning
Otter.ai is audio captioning software that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to caption multiple speakers with high accuracy. Learn how to get started with Otter.ai.
Student Notetakers
Students interested in being notetakers should contact the notetaking coordinator within the first two weeks of each term and within one week of the summer session. Prompt correspondence is essential as positions can be highly sought after.
Compensation
Upon completing the role, students will be compensated with their choice of early registration for the next term or a certificate of volunteerism showing twenty hours of service.
