You can only get a Social Security Number (SSN) if you are offered a job. If you are offered a job, these are the steps you must follow:
- You must first be offered a job on campus.
- Pick up a Letter of Employment form at the Business Services office with your employment package.
- Take the Letter of Employment form to your supervisor. The letter needs to be filled out by the supervisor confirming that you have been offered employment.
- Go to the ISO office to request approval to work. If approved, you will be given a letter confirming you have been approved to work. This can take five days.
- Go to a local Social Security Office and bring the following documents:
- Completed Letter of Employment form
- Letter from ISO verifying your full time F1 student status
- SEVIS I-20
- Passport
- Visa
- I-94
