Department Chair, Art

Nicole White is a photography professor in the Art and Art Digital Media departments at DVC. Her teaching methodology centers around how photography communicates information through process and presentation. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art in Photography, an MA in Art History from the University of Connecticut, and an MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

White has exhibited her work most recently at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Massachusetts, Chung24 Gallery in San Francisco, and TILT Institute for the Contemporary Image in Philadelphia.  Her collaborative 2021 publication, Rolls & Tubes: A History of Photography, is in the collections of San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and the New Orleans Museum of Art, among others. During her 2023 sabbatical, White wrote a photography textbook, A Basic Guide to Photography, that is now being used in photography programs across the country. In 2024, she was included in the +KGP publication, Of Covid and produced an artist book with National Monument Press entitled Dream House.

In 2025, White looks forward to a solo exhibition at DVC’s art gallery along with speaking about her textbook at the Society for Photographic Education’s National Conference. She is also excited about participating in the 2026 Study Abroad program in Florence, Italy.
