Dr. Ji Yeon Shin is a dedicated geology professor at Diablo Valley College. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Shin has held teaching positions at both large universities and community colleges. She holds a PhD in Geology with a focus on vertebrate paleontology from UC Davis and a master’s in geology from University of Cincinnati.
As the OER (Open Educational Resources) Campus Coordinator, Dr. Shin works to expand access to educational materials by promoting the use of free, open resources that make learning more accessible and affordable for all students. In the classroom, Dr. Shin combines hands-on learning experiences with interactive lectures, aiming to make complex geological concepts approachable and exciting.
Dr. Shin brings a deep passion for the Earth's history and a commitment to fostering curiosity in students of all backgrounds. Whether guiding students through the principles of geology or helping them uncover the past through fossils, Dr. Shin is deeply invested in empowering the next generation of scientists and explorers.
