Frank Ortega

Program Co-Lead, Sociology

Frank J. Ortega, PhD, is a Professor of Sociology and Social Justice at Diablo Valley College. He earned his associate’s degree from De Anza College and bachelor’s in history at San José State University in 2010. Ortega received his master’s and PhD in Sociology from Texas A&M University. He is currently the Co-Chair of the Sociology Department, Co-Chair of CLASE, Convener of the Racial Justice Collective, and a member of DREAMers Alliance. 

Professor Ortega advises DVC’s Omega Leo and Social Justice student clubs. He teaches in DVC’s dual enrollment programs including College Now. Ortega has also been the recipient of the 2019, “Community Champions Award,” from Santa Clara County. He has a growing family and splits his time between Contra Costa County and the South Bay – where he remains committed to student achievement and equity.
