The liberal arts classrooms are very old and tired and are not up to our new classroom standards. Our faculty office building is an old wooden structure at the end of its expected life.
This new construction along with the learning center remodel will house all of the functions of the current learning center, faculty offices, current LA classrooms, PUMA, veterans center, and additional counseling spaces.
The proposal reflects an increased capacity to accommodate classroom design standards, including three classrooms shifted from the art building for broader access and flexible use.
In spring 2019, the college will be embarking on a facilities master planning process. In anticipation of that process, the college is just beginning to engage in conversations around the impacts of the location of the new Academic Complex.
The college recognizes that the location and orientation of a building can significantly impact student learning, engagement, and collaboration. Conversations will continue into early spring to discuss approaches to the Academic Complex project and the existing Engineering-Technology Complex Renovation project as part of the sequence developed for the Measure E Project Implementation.
These conversations will work their way through the college community groups and governance groups for broad campus input and discussion and will provide a bridge to the upcoming Facilities Master Planning effort.
