Our music industries program prepares you to become well-rounded in the music industry. You will learn how to record, market, and distribute your music. Students are prepared to work in music production, composition, business and marketing, and sound engineering. Learn in our state-of-the-art Music Technology Center (MTC). Careers in this field are both dynamic and in demand!

Career Opportunities

The music industries program will prepare you for work in a variety of occupations and career paths, including:

Music production and engineering:

  • record and mix engineer, mastering engineer, producer, sound design

Contemporary music writing and production:

  • composer, arranger, jingle writer, producer/songwriter, lyricist

Music business:

  • music publisher, artist manager, public relations, marketing representative, music supervisor and licensing, music marketing

Sound for picture:

  • ADR, Foley, production sound mixer, sound designer, film composer, music editor

Game audio:

  • game music note tracker and transcriptionist, game music composing and scoring, sound designer, production coordinator

Sound reinforcement:

  • front of house engineer, concert sound, monitor mixer

About degrees and certificates

Certificates:
A certificate readily prepares you to enter a particular field or career. It can also give you new skills for advancement in the workplace.

Associate Degrees:
An associate degree requires a broader education for career options in a range of industries. It's a great step towards earning a bachelor degree at a four-year school or entering the workforce sooner.

Associate Degrees for Transfer:
A transfer degree is equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor’s degree program. Earning one can guarantee admission to California State Universities, some private and online universities, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
