Are you interested in our history as a multiracial and multicultural society? Do you plan to earn an associate degree or transfer?

DVC's ethnic studies program explores the contributions, culture, politics, and experiences of African Americans, Asian/Pacific Islander Americans, Chicanx/ Latinx, and Native Americans in the United States.

These histories are so critical that California now requires at least one course in ethnic studies for students to earn an associate degree or transfer to a California State University. ETHN-101 fulfills CSU, IGETC, and DVC graduation requirements.

Career Opportunities

The ethnic studies program will prepare you for work in a variety of occupations and career paths, including:

With additional education:

  • Community Organization Worker
  • Educator
  • Lawyer
  • Museum Curator
  • Policy Analyst
  • Researcher

Degrees and Certificates

While DVC does not yet offer an ethnic studies degree or certificate, our course fulfills CSU, IGETC, and graduation requirements and can help you prepare for upper level degrees in ethnic studies and social justice. Related degrees and certificates include:

About degrees and certificates

Certificates:

A certificate readily prepares you to enter a particular field or career. It can also give you new skills for advancement in the workplace.

Associate Degrees:

An associate degree requires a broader education for career options in a range of industries. It's a great step toward earning a bachelor degree at a four-year school or entering the workforce sooner.

Associate Degrees for Transfer:

A transfer degree is equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor's degree program. Earning one can gruarantee admission to California State Universities, some private and online universities, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). ADTs, along with a transfer agreement guarantee (TAG) with the University of California system can help you achieve your goals for less. Learn about transfer services.
