September 7, 2021:  Explore your training "flavors"

Accessibility Goal of the Week

In last week’s goal we completed two tasks to build our accessibility support system.  First, we enrolled in the Online Accessibility at DVC Canvas course for access to on-demand tutorials.  Second, we connected with an Accessibility Ambassador.

This week, our goal is to explore multiple professional development opportunities available to move toward fully accessible content.  Read about each tool and training “flavor” below.  Descriptions of each flavor appear below the graphic. Think about how you can mix and match flavors as part of a sustainable pathway to full accessibility.

Multiple flavors for training. Full decriptions in the page text.

Online Accessibility at DVC self-paced course

This new and fully updated self-paced course will teach you the fundamentals for ensuring your online content is accessible to all learners. 4 hours OAS payment is available for faculty who complete the full course (while funding lasts), or pick and choose specific modules based on your needs.  Once you self-enroll, the course can live perpetually in your Canvas dashboard for quick access.  Note:  This course has replaced the original tutorials on the Online Accessibility at DVC website.

Digital Learning Labs

Check out the current Digital Learning Lab calendar to meet with an Accessibility Ambassador.  Coming soon we will be offering a Friday Accessibility Digital Learning Lab.  More info to come!

Accessibility Goals of the Week

Got 20 minutes?  Each Goal of the Week contains a small but powerful thing you can do to make your online content more accessible in around 20 minutes.  Small, incremental changes can make a world of difference over the long run.

Accessibility Ambassadors

Our Accessibility Ambassadors have gone through extensive training and can help support you through creating learning materials not just for students with disabilities, but also students who might need different points of access to material to be successful. Through Canvas and other tools, you can work with your ambassador to welcome everyone into your course!

Accessibility Self-Assessment and Digital Access Clinics

Use our comprehensive Accessibility Self-Assessment checklist to perform your own accessibility audit for your course material. It is organized by content type (Canvas, Word, PDFs, PowerPoint and GoogleSlides, Excel, videos and audio) with links to support resources and how-to's.  To use, click the link to the Accessibility Self-Assessment, click File, and either Make a copy or Download.   Have questions? Need guidance? Contact an Accessibility Ambassador directly or schedule an appointment via the Digital Learning Lab.

In a Digital Access Clinic (DAC), our team of experts can evaluate your online content to ensure usability by people with disabilities, including users of assistive technology. Remediation training is provided as well.  Fill out the linked form to schedule a DAC.

Pop Up Learning Events

Be on the lookout for announcements from the DE team about Pop Up Learning events covering a variety of topics, including accessibility.
