October 12, 2020: Add alternative text to one Canvas page
Accessibility Goal of the Week
So far you've learned what alternative text (alt text) is and how to add it to an
image in Canvas. Now it's time to apply what you've learned.
Select one page in Canvas which contains at least one image. Make sure to locate an
image embedded directly within the Canvas page (in other words, not an image on a Word doc or PowerPoint
slide; those will be addressed in a future Goal of the Week).
Follow the steps outlined in last week's Goal of the Week to add a 1-2 sentence description for the image, or mark the image as "decorative"
if appropriate. If you're struggling to consolidate your alt text to a couple of
sentences, think of the main takeaways you want students to get from looking at the
image.
If your page's images are more complex (like charts or graphs), consider picking another
page where the images would be more suited to a 1-2 sentence description. We will
address how to deal with complex images in a future Goal of the Week.
If feeling motivated, go to another page and add alt text to those images!
