2024 CLTAC Chinese Speech Contest

DVC students shone at the Chinese Language Teachers Association of California (CLTAC) Contest on April 13, 2024 held at Lowell High School in San Francisco. The contest, organized by CLTAC, featured 293 K-16 students judged by 80 judges. Despite stiff competition from prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley and UC Davis, our nine students stood out among 142 college-level participants, securing five awards. Two students were also recognized for Outstanding Performance during the one-hour showcase.

- Third Place: Caulfield, Finley
- Honorable Mention: Zhao, Jianbin
- Outstanding Performance: Weng, Helen - Guzheng Instrument: Yúzhōu Chàng Wǎn /Fisherman's Song at Dusk
- Outstanding Performance: Lu, Kuan Te - Singing Tián Mì Mì / As Sweet as Honey
The DVC Chinese program team, professors Huiqin An and Shereen Lin, speech coach Baocai Jia, and tutor Fufu Pan would like to applaud all the nine contestants who represented DVC. All the contestants are highly recognized for their enthusiasm, determination, and hard work. Their spirit of learning often moved the hearts of instructors. One contestant stayed up the whole night before the contest trying to memorize the speech! This event has become an unforgettable memory for our participants. Special thanks are to Dr. Janette Funaro, Dean of Arts and Communication’s Division and professor Raquel Garcia, Chair of World Language and Cultures Department for their awesome encouragement and support during the event.
