In summer 2019, the management team strategized about how to better integrate unconscious bias and equity training into our hiring processes. The vice presidents have begun working with the faculty who conduct training for faculty hiring committees to provide the resources to integrate unconscious bias training into these sessions for the 2019-20 faculty hiring processes.
In September 2019, all managers will participate in unconscious bias training, and the college will work with the district Equal Employment Opportunity Committee (EEOC) over the 2019-20 academic year to integrate unconscious bias and equity training into all hiring committee trainings.
The college will also be working with several outside experts on unconscious bias and equity to provide local college training even as these conversations are moving forward at the district level. Individuals interested in moving this discussion forward or helping to integrate these topics into our hiring processes, please contact the chair of our local Equal Employment Opportunity Committee (EEOC), vice president of student services, Newin Orante. All interested individuals are encouraged to show up and participate in college committees regardless of whether you are an official committee member or not.
