California community colleges
There are one hundred and ten community colleges in California which offer many programs to assist students in reaching their career goals. Diablo Valley College, Los Medanos College, Contra Costa College, Skyline College, Laney College and Ohlone College are just a few of the colleges located throughout the Bay Area. Their programs include: associate degrees, career/technical and certificate programs. Community colleges prepares student to transfer to four-year universities.
Eligibility
You will qualify for admission with one of the following: a high school diploma, by passing the California Certificate of Proficiency Test or General Education Development Test (GED) or be at least 18 years old and no longer enrolled in high school.
Matriculation
The matriculation process may include all of the following: submitting the application for admission, taking the assessment, attending an orientation and advisement course, applying for financial aid and registering for classes. Assessment
Assessment results indicate a student’s skill level. An assessment may be required to assist with placing you in the proper math and English classes. After your admission application has been submitted, you may be advised to contact the assessment office for more information about the location, time and date of the assessment. If English is not your primary language, you may be advised to take the English as a Second Language (ESL) test.
Registration
In order to obtain classes, you must register. Registration can be done on-line, in person or by telephone on your assigned date and time. For any changes, to add or drop a class, refer to the college’s class schedule for specific instruction.
