The college governance committees are hard at work this term, and a lot is being accomplished. Here are some of the highlights.
College Council (CC)
The CC is working with the Budget Committee (BC) and the Integration Council (IC) to implement the untested college planning and resource allocation processes for the first time. The council has accepted the Integration Council Program Review Reading/Ranking Process Summary Report (approved by the IC on 5/6/2011) to be used by the BC. The council intends to engage the IC in a conversation to improve mutual understanding and the college's governance processes.
The CC reviewed and accepted most of the 2010-11 college operational committee self-evaluation reports. Discussions on the charge and function of the Enrollment Management Committee, the relationship between the Facilities Committee and the Environmental Sustainability Committee, and the relationship between the Foundations for College Success Committee and the Student Equity Committee continue. Review of the college governance committees is next.
John Purkis is the new student vice-chair filling an important student leadership role. Regular meetings have been extended to two hours (from 1 ½) for this year -- a retreat is being considered.

Institutional Planning Council / Accreditation Steering Committee (IPC)
IPC tasked a sub-group to research consultants that may be able to assist the committee with the development of a meaningful and inclusive college wide planning process proposal.
The council had an insightful pro-bono consultation with a DVC alum and planning expert. College leaders representing a variety of areas on campus participated. IPC is hopeful that this is the beginning of positive, significant changes in our planning practices.

Integration Council (IC)
The Integration Council is examining the program review process, and working to make it more streamlined, effective and timely. The IC is also identifying funding priorities based on the 2010-2011 program reviews, as listed in the IC Final Report for 2010-2011.

Budget Committee (BC)
The Budget Committee is preparing the annual budget plan for 2011-2012. Funds for this year's allocation process may be available.
The committee is working with the fall, 2011 CC-accepted Integration Council Program Review Reading/Ranking Process Summary Report. The committee wants to recommend an annual budget plan to CC at their December meeting.
Next meeting is November 18 at which the first draft of the budget plan will be revised. A standing agenda item is to make progress towards phase three (resource reallocation) in the show-cause report. The committee intends to articulate the outcomes desired from this resource reallocation process and get agreement from the CC on the outcomes; then they will design a reallocation plan.
