The college governance committees have now all met several times so far this term, and all eyes have been on the budget.
Here are more specifics about what they have been up to:
Integration Council (IC)
Budget Committee (BC)
College Council (CC)
Institutional Planning Council / Accreditation Steering Committee (IPC)
The IC in consultation and collaboration with the other governance committees, is moving to implement a two-year cycle for program review writing, analysis and recommendations for budgeting as well as college governance and planning purposes. The 2011-12 program reviews will be used to inform recommendations to the Budget Committee (BC) and the College Council (CC) for 2012-14 resource allocation decisions.
This spring, the IC will read all program reviews (instructional, administrative and student services), and will prioritize requests for human resources, technology, facilities and equipment. In April, the IC will also begin discussion of the general trends facing the college, and prepare specific recommendations based on these general themes for CC. Both the ranking of requests and general themes will be finalized in fall, 2012, after further research by standing college committees.
A final note: a number of IC members’ terms—especially faculty— expire at the end of this term. This is a great opportunity for faculty, staff and managers to participate in a wide-ranging and deeply informed discussion about our college and where we are heading. IC meetings are very stimulating, and members gain a deep understanding of DVC that is of great importance in these turbulent times. IC membership is also an excellent experience for learning how to write effective program reviews. Please consider volunteering to serve!

The BC is continuing to review the 2012-13 budget and the assumptions used in its preparation. In addition, they are continuing work on determining the scope and charge of the BC in the future as identified in the committee’s phase III development. DVC community attendance and input is invited. The next meeting will be on March 9 and March 23, from 9-11a.m. in L-151.

The CC reviewed the IC recommendations at its November 28 meeting, and the BC recommendations on December 12, 2011, and developed its final 2011-2012 Resource Allocation Recommendations to the College President on January 23, 2012. CC unanimously voted to accept the final “College Council Recommendations to the College President on 2011-2012 Resource Allocation” on January 27, 2012.
College Council met again on January 30, 2012 to discuss and inform the College President on college values to take into consideration when making his final recommendations in light of possible mid-year cuts.
College Council goals for the term include completing its review of the College Governance and Operational Committee reports from 2010-2011, and developing recommendations about the Enrollment Management and Environmental Sustainability Committees.
