Progress and Decisions – February 2015

Spring is in the air and campus activity is in full swing. Your governance leaders and committee members have been working hard to keep our college business moving while we all explore new innovations for a better tomorrow. Read about what is happening.

Strategic Plan Implementation

A Strategic Plan Implementation Coordination Working Group was established in December, consisting of Peter Garcia, Andy Barlow, Laurie Lema and Ted Wieden. The group began work in early January creating a process to develop ideas for innovation into fundable projects, and a process for mapping the many on-going activities at DVC that in some way advance the Strategic Plan directive of student success based on inclusive excellence.

The SP Implementation Group is also working to coordinate efforts to align college plans with the Strategic Plan as well as working with the governance committee co-chairs on an on-going basis.

Accreditation

On February 6, 2015, DVC received an action letter from the ACCJC informing the college that its accreditation has been reaffirmed!

As expected, the college has been asked to respond to three college recommendations and one District recommendation in a Follow-Up Report due October 15, 2015. Work is already under way to address these recommendations. Thanks to the many people who worked long and hard on the self-evaluation report and participated during the team visit! Your efforts were critical to our successful comprehensive evaluation.

Governance committee and council reports

College Council (CC)

In December 2014, CC finalized its recommendations for resource allocation to the College President. The Council continues to be briefed on ongoing efforts to implement the DVC Strategic Plan and solicit ideas for innovation proposals.

Integration Council (IC)

IC has been inviting presenters from the Strategic Plan Writing Group, Innovation for Student Success, First Year Experience, and others, to speak to IC members in order to continue the process of informing and aligning the work of the IC with the Strategic Plan. Guests will also be attending future meetings to report out on the Student Equity Plan and the changes being proposed to the Program Review templates and processes. IC members will be reviewing the major themes that arose from the most recent round of Program Reviews, and discussing future recommendations based on these themes.

Budget Committee (BC)

The Budget Committee completed it’s 2014-15 Annual Budget Plan recommendation before the end of the fall 2014 term. This recommendation was accepted by the College Council and ultimately the College President as of January 2015. Immediately upon completing the Annual Budget Plan, the Budget Committee resumed work on “Phase III” which involves the review and analyzing of current operating budget allocations for all college units. The Budget Committee will submit a recommendation with options for re-allocating operating budgets to the College Council by May 2015.
