Melissa Jacobson
Faculty - History, Pleasant Hill Campus
Melissa Jacobson finds interest in and is an activist for the history of Contra Costa County. She has volunteered as a Board of Director for the Contra Costa County Historical Society, is a member of a number of local historical societies, sits on the Historic Landmarks Advisory Committee for Contra Costa County and is Secretary for the Architectural Preservation Foundation of Contra Costa County.
Melissa enjoys exploring local history — walking the trails and doing the research — and then, taking part in the advocacy for the preservation of our county’s history. “Teaching History at Diablo Valley College is the best of both worlds; I get to share in our student’s vibrant experiences on a day to day basis, while also presenting new perspectives on very old places.”
California History and the History of Women in the United States are two courses that Melissa Jacobson regularly teaches. She also offers students internships at the Contra Costa County Historical Society; students may participate in a research project of their choosing for college credit.
