This course is a survey of perspectives on major social problems, primarily in the urban, industrial settings. Includes sources, consequences of and means of coping with a variety of social problems. The scientific methodology required for accurate analysis is emphasized. Topics will be selected from social problems such as aging, health care, mental illness, environmental issues, labor force conditions, gender and sexuality, poverty, crime, juvenile delinquency, suicide, addiction, abuse, migration and relations with minority groups, or membership in deviant subcultures.
