Important 2012-2013 Updates
Financial Aid Communication Update
Please be advised that all DVC communications including online payment receipts, schedule changes, communication from faculty, reminder of class start dates, and ALL financial aid related notifications will be delivered to your InSite e-mail. Your e-mail address is based on your InSite portal username. The format is username@insite.4cd.edu. Log in to InSite to access your email account.
Submitting Documents for 2012-2013
Please be advised that beginning Monday, August 20, 2012, the Financial Aid Office requires that students needing to submit documents to complete their financial aid file will need to meet with a Financial Aid coordinator during a drop-in. Our drop-in hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Tuesday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday – Closed for Processing
2012-2013 FAFSA & IRS Data Retrieval Process
Beginning with the 2012-2013 academic year, we will no longer be able to accept signed copies of federal tax returns from students and parents for the FAFSA verification process.
There is an easier, faster way to provide tax information for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). When completing the FAFSA you will be prompted to enter your PIN and link the IRS website. The retrieval process will display your tax information and allow you to transfer it to your FAFSA. The Financial Aid Office encourages everyone to retrieve their tax data if you and your parent(s) have filed your 2011 tax returns prior to completing the FAFSA. Families who do not use the IRS Data Retrieval process may be required to submit an IRS tax return transcript directly from the IRS to complete the federal verification process.
Financial Aid Award Letter
Upon submitting your financial aid documents to the Financial Aid Office with a Financial Aid Coordinator, processing your file will take between 4-6 weeks. You will be able to view your Award Letter electronically in your DVC Insite Portal WebAdvisor in about 4-6 weeks. Your Award Letter will include your Pell Grant as well as any other grant you may have been awarded.
Direct Loan Program 2012-2013
In order to be considered for the Federal Direct Loan program, students must first complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA. Interested students should click on the Student Loan link on the menu to the left.

The mission of the Financial Aid Office is to inform all students of financial aid programs and provide financial aid assistance to eligible students in a timely, professional, and supportive manner.
What is Financial Aid?
Financial aid is money for college. It is provided by the United States taxpayers to ensure that everyone who wants a college education has the financial ability to pay for their college expenses. Financial aid is also a partnership between you - the student - and the college that provides money to help pay college costs. If you receive financial aid, it is expected that you will enroll in courses needed to complete your chosen program, work hard at learning, and move responsibly toward successful completion of your educational goal.
Who is Eligible?
To be considered eligible for and receive federal and most state financial aid at Diablo Valley College, an applicant must:
• Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen (permanent resident, refugee, asylee)
• Be enrolled or eligible for enrollment at Diablo Valley College
• Have completed the matriculation process which involves testing, placement, college orientation and counseling
• Be enrolled in a degree, certificate of achievement, or eligible transfer program
• Be making satisfactory academic progress according to financial aid policy
• Have financial need as demonstrated through application on the Student Aid Report from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.fafsa.gov)
• Males must be registered with the Selective Service System.
• Have either (1) a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent, OR (2) passed an Ability to Benefit test at the Assessment Center, OR (3) completed 6 transferable college units
• Not be in default on a Federal student loan or owe a repayment of a Federal student grant
• Supply an accurate Social Security Number and name
