Each month this semester, CARE and CalWORKs students are invited to participate in a monthly discussion on a specific topic of interest. Articles and book excerpts will be distributed at the beginning of the month to highlight a specific monthly topic. For more information or to receive the assigned reading packets, check in with Priscilla Beas, CARE Assistant, in the EOPS/CARE Office.
KENNEDY-KING SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP
Wednesday, November 8, 2012, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Student Services Center, Room 216
Founded in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the Kennedy King Memorial College Scholarship Fund provides multiple college schoalrships each year to students from minority groups underrepresented at California's four-year colleges and universities. This workshop will provide students with important information about eligibility requirements, application process, and important deadlines. CARE Workshop: "Telling Your Story"
Thursday, November 8, 2012, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: BFL Community Conference Room
This workshop will provide CARE students with an opportunity to de-stress and express themselves in a nurturing environment where their stories will be heard, appreciated and understood. The workshop will focus on building self-awareness and self-esteem.

CARE WORKSHOP: "CalWORKs - What's up with WTW?"
Friday, November 30, 2012, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Trophy Room
Antoinette Dozier, Staff Attorney for the Western Center for Law & Poverty (WCLP) will be providing attendees with important information and updates regarding upcoming changes to the CalWORKs Welfare to Work program. CARE and CalWORKs students will leave the workshop armed with knowledge necessary for coordinating their upcoming WTW educational/activity plan next semester.
Lunch will be provided. Contact Priscilla Beas in the EOPS/CARE Office to RSVP.
EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs WINTER CELEBRATION
Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 4 - 6 p.m.
Location: Trophy Room
(For CARE and CalWORKs students only)
EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs students and their family are invited to attend our annual end of year winter celebration. Kid-friendly food and refreshments will be provided as well as storytelling, music, and a toy for each child (donated by the Toys for Tots program). This popular event is fun for the entire family.
