Professional development program - 2008-2009 services and eligibility

The ECE Professional Development Program, with funding from First 5 Contra Costa, provides academic and financial support to ECE students who have worked with children age 0-5 in the same licensed/license exempt program for the last nine months. If you are working towards a Child Development Permit, an Associate Degree in ECE or BA transfer requirements, the following services are available at DVC:

Advising and Educational Planning* assistance to meet requirements for California Child Development Permits, DVC Certificates, Associate Degrees and BA transfer

Child Development Permit Application Assistance*

*Educational Advising and Permit Assistance is available to all ECE students, PDP eligible or not.

 "Cohort" classes in Math: small group classes with textbooks provided and in-class tutoring support designed to help ECE students meet Associate Degree Math requirements

ESL/English and GE Course Study Groups & Tutoring: on-going support to increase student success in ECE and English classes

Textbook Loans for most ECE and some GE courses -- click here for the textbook request form

 "Lost Wages" Scholarships to support participation in Student Teaching Lab (ECE 249/250) without losing wages from current employment

Financial Rewards and Benefits for meeting First 5 PDP participation requirements, for completion of coursework that meets Child Development Teacher Permit and Associate of Science Degree requirements.

PDP Eligibility Criteria and Participation Requirements for Financial Benefits

PDP Benefit recipients must be employed more than 9 months, in a licensed/license exempt early care and education program/family child care home, with children age 0-5, at least 15 hours weekly.

Participants must complete or update the following every year:

1. Professional Development Program Application verifying current employment

2. An approved Education Plan and completion of approved courses.
