What is Workability?
Workability III is a partnership contract through the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) through the state of California with Diablo Valley College to provide job placement services to those DOR community college students with disabilities who want to go to work. This three-year contract will be reviewed annually. Two Employment Specialists will be available at the Diablo Valley College located in the Career and Employment Services Center.
Who Can Be Referred?
Any rehabilitation client and a student at Diablo Valley College nearing the completion of his/her certificate program, Associate of Arts or Science Degree (A.A. or A.S.), or internship program.
1. Anyone who is a DOR client and a student at DVC and has not completed a certificate or degree program, but wants to go to work part-time or full-time.
2. Anyone who is eligible to become a DVC student and already a client of the Department of Rehabilitation and is “job ready".
How Are Clients Referred?
DOR counselors must complete a referral form and disability verification. Forms may be faxed to 925-691-9645, a secured location at the Diablo Valley College in the Career and Employment Services Center, to the selected WAIII Employment Specialist. Additional information can be obtained from a Workability III representative by calling the DVC Career and Employment Services Center at 925-969-2203.
Those who are non-DVC students can be eligible!
To be eligible, the DOR counselor should authorize fees for Learning Skills 56 at Diablo Valley College. Total fees to be authorized are: $10.50 Note: If the client qualifies for the Board of Governor’s Waiver (BOGG) there is no fee*. A $35.00 parking fee, if appropriate can be authorized.
*Eligibility requires that students must be residents of California and they must receive state assistance or meet minimum income standards (below family income of $15,315) or demonstrate financial need as stated by the Board of Governor’s Waiver application.
