How to calculate your GPA
What is GPA?
GPA stands for grade point average.
How is GPA calculated?
Courses are given a letter or P/NP grade. (See catalog for information about P/NP.) P/NP courses do not affect your GPA.
|Letter grades have the following point value:||Letter grade point value|
Each course is assigned a number of units – ex. English 122 is a 3-unit course.
The number of units is multiplied by the number of points.
|Course||Units||Points||Grade||Grade points (Units * Points)|
|English 122||3||3||B||9 (3x3)|
|Psych 122||3||4||A||12 (3x4)|
|History 120||3||0||F||0 (3x0)|
|Health Sc 124||3||3||D||3 (3x1)|
|PE 106||1||1||A||4 (1x4)|
Overall GPA ~ 28 (graded points) ÷ 13 (graded units) = 2.154
