HIGHLIGHTS:
Congratulations to our Women’s Volleyball team as they completed a successful 2012 season!
After a slow start, the Lady Vikings soon found confidence in each other and in their game. Although dropping two key matches early during pre-season against Solano and Foothill, DVC began knocking off opponents who stood in the way of their playoff goal. Defeating Delta College 3 times, splitting with Sacramento City but winning the head to head matchup and giving Sierra a run, the Lady Vikings finished Big 8 Conference play with a strong fourth place ranking. Recognized for their own court play, sophomore right side hitter Sandra Foster and freshmen outside hitter Abbie Noland were selected by the coaches to the Big 8 All Conference Team.
Known as one of the toughest conferences in the north, the Big 8 Conference usually sends 4 to 5 teams to the CCCAA NorCal Play-offs. Besides conference winner, Santa Rosa, other teams that represented Big 8 and made playoffs were American River, Sierra and our Diablo Valley College Lady Vikings! “It’s been a few years since we’ve made playoffs” said Coach Ponciano-Babb. “I’m happy for our team and the success that we had this year. We traveled to Fresno City College for Round 1 of the NorCal Regional’s and played great for two sets but we all know that it takes three sets to win.” In the end, DVC finished the year with records of 7-7 (Big 8) and 12-15 (Overall) and ranked 15th in the North.
